Hicham Berrada

Born in 1986 in Casablanca, Morocco.
Lives and works in Paris.
After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, École du Fresnoy in Tourcoing, and a residency at the Villa Médicis in Rome, Hicham Berrada, son of a biologist and a pharmacist and with a passion for science, has established himself as a "laboratory artist." His artistic work is dedicated to chemistry. Immersed in various baths of solutions, sometimes homemade, and subjected to different temperatures, materials degrade over varying periods, making the process of chemical alteration and its temporality the focus of his work.

For Les Ardoines Station, Hicham Berrada presents a detailed bronze model of the station submerged in a solution and degraded through electrolysis. The slow destruction of the material, intended to span several centuries, resonates with the fleeting presence of commuters, witnesses to a change that is both constant and imperceptible.

TANDEMS, Artists and Architects is a project of the Société du Grand Paris (Greater Paris Metropolitan Region), conceived and implemented by the artistic and cultural direction of the Greater Paris Network led by José-Manuel Gonçalves with 104Paris, Manifesto, and Eva Albarran Agency. Tandems oversees the artistic coordination of the design of permanent artworks in the future stations of the Greater Paris Network.
