Valeo Generic Factories

We did some strategic thinking when designing the Groupe Valeo’s factories, resulting in a fine-tuning of the concept of a “generic factory”.

This concept consists of defining a factory’s functional and people-related aspects, in-depth analysis of their relative positionings and reciprocal relationships in terms of flexible units, scalability, quality of working conditions, architectural identity and environmental issues.

From this, some “ground rules” emerged which, when applied, enabled the emergence of an optimal plan addressing all these parameters. Taking account of flexibility and scalability helped pave the way for investment in architectural and environmental quality. This type of theory-based approach made it possible to set up a pertinent project suited to every situation and specific context.

We have successfully applied it in Bouznika in Morocco, Veszprém in Hungary, San Luis Potosí in Mexico, Skawina in Poland and Wuhan in China. Once developed, this process took the form of a design manual that can be used by other designers.
