Hendrikhof

The Hendrikhof project, located in the heart of Tilburg's historic center, aims to reimagine the interior of an urban block on the edge of Heuvelstraat by densifying it and incorporating residential and commercial spaces, thus creating a new entirely pedestrian-friendly and environmentally conscious neighborhood.

Inspired by the silhouette of aligned gables typical of Dutch cities, the project's architecture unfolds under a continuous large pleat that varies in height, from 3 stories at the edge of the block to 20 stories at the center, forming a tower, the focal point of the composition, necessary for densification and serving as a new emblem of the city.

This pleat follows the layout of the retail street, designed as an open-air shopping center, in an intimate and friendly scale inspired by Place Furstemberg. Historic buildings on the street are carefully restored, while the architecture within the block, characterized by a simple and contemporary design, utilizes light brick, typical of Tilburg.

Balancing modernity with respect for the historical context, daring scale with integration into the low-rise urban fabric, the project aims to bring a new dimension and attractiveness to the city of Tilburg.
