A new emblem of Lorient and of the renewal of the Scorff riverbanks, the project is now part of the history of the place, like the memory of the sailors from Lorient who, on the ships of the East Indies Company, brought back from their voyages many exotic essences.

Organised according to a design that identifies and gives autonomy to the volumes accommodating the key functions (inpatient wards, technical platforms, logistics), the project thus offers a reading of the buildings on a scale close to that of the existing ones, a reassuring dimension for patients and maximum scalability thanks to non-layering of inpatient wards with technical platforms, and ease of extension by independent sectors.

The circulations and various flows are structured as a coherent whole, and coordinated between the hospital interior and the entire site. On the site and inside the hospital, the visitor, logistical and emergency circuits are clearly separated. The inpatient accommodation is composed of V-shaped modules equipped with a reception area and a centralised first-aid station, put together in such a way as to allow scalability of service capacity without disrupting the organisation of the storeys, as well as extension of the ensemble by the simple addition of a supplementary module. The patient’s rooms enjoy a panoramic view of the patios.

A work tool of optimised effectiveness, the project is also intended as a pleasant and calm workplace for staff, with the systematisation of natural lighting and views of the exterior, limited distances to cover and, lastly, a panoramic restaurant that invites people to take time to relax away from the pressure of the medical environment.
