Laënnec Rive Gauche
This layout creates a huge, well-aligned place, at the centre of which sits the historic hospital. The architecture of the façades and new buildings was designed according to a simple, regular layout, heightening the feeling of an architecture made for framing and showcasing. A huge garden rolls out across the site of the hospital’s former vegetable garden, closely resembling and thus harmonising with the neighbouring gardens.
The differentiated architecture of the street-side façades creates continuity with the façades of the adjacent buildings and is aligned with the dimensional characteristics of the constructions, which were realised parcel by parcel within the traditional building. The façade of each building is thus a composition of base, main body and upper part, the unity of the whole being ensured by the use of a thick stone facing for all the façades. The buildings thus combine contemporary architecture with integration into historic Paris.
