Grand Hotel
Enghien-les-Bains

Enghien-les-Bains is the only thermal spa resort in the Paris region. It developed in the late 19th century around a large lake and gained widespread renown thanks to its casino, hotels, and thermal baths. The project to rebuild the Grand Hôtel on the lakefront presents a unique opportunity to write a new chapter in the history of this remarkable site at the dawn of the 21st century.

The architectural design is guided by three main principles:
• A box-like volume clad in vertical panels and slats that project slightly outward, creating a subtle visual vibration and lending dynamism to the façade depending on the viewer’s perspective.
• A series of horizontal plates extending each floor outward toward the spa landscape.
• Arched arcades wrapping around the top two levels—echoing the historic arches of the casino—and slender metal posts supporting the upper floor, referencing the emergence of iron architecture in the 19th century.

This results in a project on the lake pier that is clear and contemporary in its expression, while still resonating with Enghien’s architectural heritage.

Another defining feature of the project is its environmental performance: solar protection via generous continuous balconies, high-performance insulation, photovoltaic renewable energy, stone arcades and bio-based materials, reuse of demolition materials, and preservation of existing greenery.
